On-Campus Blog
For my On-Campus field trip I had attended the Woman's Soccer MASCAC
(Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference) Quarter Finals
with our proud Salem State Vikings versus the Bridgewater Bears. It
overall was a great match up and a very intense game with our Vikings
putting up a hell of a fight and fighting it out until the very last
minute and up until the Penalty Kicks of the final overtime. The
girls of the Vikings scored one goal throughout the game in the
second quarter where Kara Digiacomo of Peabody, MA scored the first
goal of the game. The Vikings held onto their 1-0 lead as the end of
the second quarter was closing. However with three minutes left
remaining in the game when a player on the Bears, Allison LeBel,
scored an amazing goal as it bounced over the head of the Vikings
goalie Rachel Ledbetter. The game then went into 1st
overtime and the previous scorer on the Vikings, Digiacomo was so
close to scoring and just barely missed the net as she hit the post
nearly winning the game for the Vikings. After the overtime the game
went into Penalty Kicks and the valiant women of Salem State fought
hard but only came up with two more goals. Unfortunately the Bears
scored three goals to win the Quarter Final with a score of 4-3 and
move on to the Semi-Finals and face the #1 seed Worcester State. The
women fought hard but Bridgewater State proved victorious over our
beloved Salem State Vikings. Halloween Blog Post
So if you don't already know October in Salem is one of the most craziest and fun things to ever enjoy. The State University holds annual events in accordance to the moth of October and in doing so I have participated in many of them. One of them being the Haunted Hallways of Bowditch Hall. This event took place in the Bowditch Hall Residence building and every floor participated in this event including my floor. There were some floors that did and incredible job such as the 6th, 4th, and 2nd floors. Each floor had their own style and flair to it; many of them had either a theme or a story to go along with what they were doing. The 2nd floor did an incredible story about a girl who was taken over by drugs and performed rituals. They had decorated all the halls with cobwebs and fake blood paint to really sell that you were a part of the story of this girl. The bathrooms were very well transformed and they had stall doors slamming violently and vicious screaming with the words written on the mirror in fake blood “You are all dead”. That floor performed very well and had placed 1st place among the others winning the pizza party 1st place prize. The 4th floor was a runner up and placed 2nd and had also done a simply remarkable job with driving their theme across. They had done a theme of possessed girls floor, which was in fact quite terrifying and well put together. The girls had shut off all of the lights and had placed jump-scares across most of the floor and one girl in particular was wearing all black crawling and grabbing at peoples legs as they entered the floor it was terrifying to say the least. They had made a pentacross on the ground of the floor with red tape and were acting as if they were performing a ritual. One girl was lying in the middle of the pentacross and the other girls surrounded her and then all of a sudden the girls surrounding the girl in the middle had collapsed and dropped to the floor and the girl in the middle had rose up. She then started to growl and tried to grab at the people who were there, it was quite a performance. The 6th floor had come in 3rd place, however they were not lacking in their decorative style of the holiday. They had done a very viewing piece and it was perhaps on of the floors that had the participation of every resident on that floor (besides the 4th floor). They had everyone of their people either pretending to be dead or killed in certain fashion like their was someone hanging from the ceiling as if he hanged himself and their were people dressed up as priests condemning people to hell or there was even a person dragging someone across the floor pretending to kidnap him and sacrifice him somewhere. Many of the RA's on all the floors had participated and really came through with helping the residents with this event. It was extremely fun to look and watch all of the different designs in the floors and how each floor did something different yet fitting with the theme of a haunted floor. It was yet again extremely fun and scary at the same time and Salem State knows how to do Halloween in October.
