100 things to do before you graduate blog
#10: Salem state university has developed a list of 100 things to do before you graduate. Number 10 is to study abroad. This is great advice for Salem state students, I have provided my own experience for you.
I am from Iran and I currently am an international student who is studying abroad in Salem. I applied for United States one year ago and before that I was studying in India. I moved to India four years ago to study there. Before I moved to India, I had been searching a lot to gather information about studying abroad. I was thinking which major I was interesting or which major was suitable for me and how was the opportunity of career related to my major. In my point of view I have believed that for making a big decision in our life we have to evaluate all the aspect for our decision to find what is best for us. For example, when I was thinking about studying abroad for India I had considered two things such as educational goals and career goals which anyone should have concern before applying to study abroad. I general, educational goals are your plan during your time in that country, and what you want to do during your program to be successful. Career goals are what is your plan after you will graduate and think about what type of job you want and if you want to study and work in that country or not. I consulted with my parents about that and I talked with those whe were studying in India and also I searched online. Internet sources are also really useful to help us. I went to India and I was there for three years. Sometimes after such a long time we understand we are not satisfied with our choice and we have to change everything the same thing is also happened to me. Actually, after three years I understood I couldn’t stay in India anymore, and it was totally different than my imagination. After that, I applied here and the long and hard process took one year, and I have never regretted starting over. Remember, it is never too late and we can start anytime and anywhere we want, never give up. I went to CIE office to gather some information for those who are interested in studying abroad. Xia helps students whether they live in America or other international student to send them abroad, and recently she sent one Chinese student to Cambodia. There are some books also to guide students and their parents to get an idea for studying abroad. In my personal experience, these kinds of books helped me during the process. So, there are lots of opportunities for those student who want to study abroad. They will make new friends and they will be familiar with a new culture, food and people. They will be independent from their family and understand they have to stand on their own in life. This is the main thing I have learned in these 5 years. I am not living with my parents and I have learned how to overcome in different situations. I hope my experience has been useful for you. If I had any advice, it would be to just take your decision and keep going. |
