100 Things to do Before You Graduate
28. Join a Student Organization
I can proudly say I have checked off a numerous amount of things on my list to do before Igraduate here at Salem State University. The most important thing that I checked off was number 28;join a student organization. During my orientation a few members of the A Cappella group,Ssockappella, encouraged new students to sing in front of an audience in Marsh Dining. I had just had arecital where I performed “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” so I had a piece of music prepared and Idecided to get up and sing. Afterwards, I exchanged information with a few of the members and they letme know when the try outs where. I auditioned and thankfully made the group. I am so happy that Idecided to join because that was when I truly felt as though I belonged at Salem State. Not only are themembers of the group so talented, but by being with them I have surrounded myself with hard- workingand encouraging people who are truly caring, thoughtful, and wish the best for one another. My favoritememories of college are with them and they truly made me feel appreciated. Also, to share a commonpassion of music and performance it is easy to make bonds with them. With the second semester here, Ihad to take a leave of absence from the group with some personal family health issues and my workload being too much. With this, everyone has been so supportive and they all let me know they will bethere if I need anything. So this group helped me not only provided an opportunity for me to sing andperform but also made me feel like I belong here so I am so thankful that I could check joining thisstudent organization, Ssockappella off my list.
