Makin' My Way Downtown...
Throughout the month of October there were so many events relating to Halloween I couldn’t believe it. The city of Salem went beyond what I was imagining. I knew it was going to be chaotic and crazy but I wasn’t expecting people to come from faraway places to come to Salem just because of the infatuation with the witch trials and the reputation Salem, MA has. One Saturday afternoon I went downtown with my friend Brian who lives in the area and we walked the streets of Salem. Downtown was a mess. There were so many tents and people selling Halloween related items, a lot of them were beautiful and scary. Some of the tents weren’t a part of a store but just people selling things that they made. Also, my favorite part, were the food trucks. It felt as though I was at a carnival with the amount of fried food there was. One tent had witch hats similar to those in Harry Potter. Another tent had masks that you put around your head. There were all sorts of different kinds such as ones that made you look like a cat and some were just scary. I walked by a ton of tours and even joined in on one, the tour that informed us on the cemetery and those under it. The benches with the witch trial victims’ names were being sat on! I couldn’t believe it, in my opinion that’s rude. There was a candlelit tour that took you around the cemeteries and historical homes. The Segway tour was fun to watch, people would ride segways around the city and the tour guide was the line leader talking to the tourists through a headset. Walking through the streets I saw a lot of people in costumes. There were a ton of Jack Sparrows, witches, magicians, and zombies. Some costumes were done very well, but others were not.
